View larger. | Joined by a familiar cast of characters, Snake must once again return to the battlefield to confront his lifelong rival, Liquid Ocelot, who is manipulating the world's wars from the one world where soldiers will always have a place. But Liquid Ocelot is not the only one who will be able to manipulate the world's wars--Snake can destabilize opposing forces by working behind the scenes, supporting the local militia as they fight PMCs, creating a smokescreen that allows Snake to move freely within the war-zone. MGS4 is a next-generation adventure set in the aftermath of MGS2: Sons of Liberty. The concept behind the latest Metal Gear Solid project is "no place to hide," and this edition in the series will force Snake into unexpected circumstances with an all-new storyline that breaks away in some ways from the previous MGS franchise entries. We don't want to spoil it for you, but, producer Hideo Kojima did reveal some very juicy tidbits about the game and the storyline when it was first announced at E3 of 2006. "Until now," said Kojima, "we've released two entries of the MSX2 Metal Gear series, and three entries in the Metal Gear Solid series. Add to this Portable Ops, and you get a total of six titles. All mysteries will be cleared up in Metal Gear Solid 4." Kojima was very clear about the finality of MSG4, leaving gamers to wonder, "Will Snake die?!" When asked if the story will come to this sort of an end, Kojima responded without the slightest bit of vagueness, "It will come to an end." The MGS4 E3 trailer showed a number of characters from the Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid histories. This final installment is sure to deliver loads of cameos, in fact, it is rumored that nearly all the characters from the series will make an appearance. In addition to a return of classic Metal Gear Solid characters, the gameplay systems from part three are also expected to make a comeback. The camouflage system from part three will make it into MGS4, with the addition of "OctoCamo," Snake's most advanced stealth suit to date. The name appears to be formed from the words "Octopus" and "camoflauge," and players will be awestruck by the chameleon-like camo that changes with the surroundings. OctoCamo allows Snake to blend in with his environment as it digitally manifests nearby textures in real time. Think if it this way, if Snake is standing next to a wall worn out with holes, he too will appear to be riddled with holes. It has also been revealed that MGS4 will have online play, but no specifics have been released. Although very little information is known about the game's visuals, rumor has it that MGS4 is expected to be the finest representation of console graphics on the PS3, and it is expected that they will just get better and better as the game nears its release date. |

Solid Snake vs Liquid |

I have been a long time player of the metal gear series all the way back to when he debuted on the Nintendo Entertainment System. This game is not the final mission of Solid Snake. I beg to differ, may I say something a little cliched? It is only the beginning. This latest edition to the Metal Gear series sets the tone for the "final battle" between long foes. Snake has aged in the game series to an old man; but fear not later in the game you can unlock the face-camo that shows snake as a young snake. You travel from continent to another tracking liquid and trying to finally find him. You meet up with familier allies: Colonel, Raiden, Otacon, Sunny, Meryl, Zero, Solidus, Liquid, Vamp to name a few. But this game holds non-stop action. You will finally be revealed the reason why Snake is aging so quickly. Be on guard for a lot of cut-scenes cuz Hideo Kojima displays a lot of in between "mini movies" so the actual gametime is really approx. 2-3 hrs of actual time if you stormed through it without stealth. But for those of you who are die-hard Metal Gear fans who grew up with the series back in the mid 1980's era you will want this. |

Great Movie/Game |

I played this back when it first came out. Recently purchased it again to go back through the game. Have put over 14 hours into it on the first go round. I really have enjoyed the interactive cinematics and polished gameplay. Hideo did a great job on this one and I hope to see another PS3 MGS from him in the future. Very enjoyable title and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! |

Crap Storytelling Soils Kojima's Legacy |

MGS4 is an abomination to the series. Fanboys will try to tell you that the series was never about story, but that's really ALL it was about. There were better stealth games on the market. There were better shooters. There were better action games. The story is the reason one played a Metal Gear game, and this game's story sucks. The 2 hour ending is an embarrassment even to garbage filmsters like Uwe Boll. It's cringe-worthy at times. My wife passed by as the ending was playing and laughed at how awful it was. Seriously, as the exclamation point to a once-storied series, this is like seeing a cockroach on a wedding cake. Sure, much of the story's asshattery comes from the fecund bunch of mush mouth blab that was Sons of Liberty, but for God's sake, Gun of the Patriots makes SOL's narrative look like Shakespeare. I'm not even joking. This is a trash story that ruined my favorite series. Do yourself a favor: play Snake Eater and stop right there. That's Kojima at his best and brightest -- this is like seeing your childhood idol shooting smack in an alleyway. So sad, Hideo. So, so sad. |

I'm new on the MGS saga games. After I finished this one, I wanted to play all the entire saga.

Pleasantly surprised |
I bought this because if you had a PS3 you pretty are required to play it. So I saw it on here for 20 bucks and said why not. I played through the game and all I can say is wow. I haven't played any of the previous Metal Gears but I still enjoyed this game A LOT. If you are considering getting this game just buy it.
The graphics are great (Some weird anomalies here and there just like any game would)
Voice acting is probably the best I've heard.
Half the time when I was playing it people thought I was watching a movie. Thats how good the graphics are!
