I am VERY impressed .... |
Recently the pads on my Sony Noise-Canceling headphones had become very badly worn, and since they weren't terribly comfortable WITH the pads, I decided it was time to get some replacements. After asking around for suggestions from my Audiophile friends, and looking around on the web, I found a list on [...] of their picks for the 5 BEST headphones for use with portable music players. These were on there along with a lot of other headphones that costs LOTS more (Specifically the Bose QC2 & QC3.) And they listed the retail of these at around $50.00. Since that was about what my Sony's cost - I started looking around & found them on Orderitdiscount for just about $30.00 ! So I figured it was a pretty clear "can't lose" situation, and ordered them. Oh, how right I was ...
First off, even though the delivery estimate was 6-10 days, I got them 3 days after placing my order. They were smaller than I expected, but I very anxiously brought them down to where my laptop was (since that is where they will be used the most,) started up my favorite Internet Radio Station ([...]) plugged them in & put them on. All I can say is WOW ! They sounded SO much better than my Sony's the difference was startling. The bass response was HUGE & the fullness of the mid range & highs created an almost surround-sound environment. And no matter how loud I cranked the volume, I couldn't detect ANY distortion. I can honestly say they are far & away the best sounding headphones I have ever had - and to get that kind of sound from a pair of $30.00 portables is astounding !
My only complaints about the phones has to do with their folding form-factor. They are designed to fold in towards the headband with the ends clipping together to form a loop. Trouble is, they still just BARELY fit in the leatherette bag provided to carry them in. And most of the time while putting them away, they have a tendency to spring back open, which complicates extraction. But this is a small detail I can definitely live with.
One other note, I thought I'd pass along. The drivers these headphones use are also used by several of Koss' less expensive headphones as well. So it is very likely that you could find a $15-20 pair of Koss headphones at your local WalMart on a rack with all the low-end Sony, Skull Candy, & Memorex headphones, and STILL get the same sound quality that you can have with the PortaPros. I can't vouch for the headphones construction though.
Bottom line is, for the price I cannot imagine finding a BETTER pair of headphones than these. If you're in the market I would definitely recommend these above anything else. You will NOT be disappointed |

An absolute steal for the price |

These headphones are fantastic. I bought them because I had only used earbuds prior and felt that listening to music on serious headphones would be a good idea. When I got them I was blown away. They are not the best headphones ever, but for 35 bucks the quality is sky high. The fold-up apparatus is nifty and useful, so I seriously recommend them to anyone in the market for great headphones. |

You'll have to spend over 150-200$ to find better sounding than these. The design is okay but lets be honest if you want great sound this is it. Hats off to Koss. |

The Koss PortaPro Headphones work for me as earbuds don't stay in place. I use them while on the treadmill and they stay in place and provide good sound quality. So far I haven't experienced any problems, I have had them over a month. |

They stand the test of time |
I bought a pair of these headphones in 1982 when I bought my first portable CD player. They sounded great and I loved them. They were my favorite headphones and I have owned many that were priced much higher. Over the years, they became misplaced and I mourned their loss. Imagine my surprise when I was browsing Orderitdiscount and found the identical pair in 2006 still being produced by Koss and selling for not much more than I paid in 1982. Of course, I immediately ordered them. I was not disappointed. They are as good as I remember them, even though I now use them with an iPod that produces a lower quality sound than my old CD player.
I can truly see why Koss still produces these headphones basically unchanged. The only downside, if you could even call it that, is that the earpads wear out after a while. But even that is not too bad, since replacements are available on Orderitdiscount for a very low price. I intend to protect these and use them until I pass them on to my grandchildren. |
